FA Cup 3rd round v.
Swansea City
Will we get a good
cup run this season ?
THE CUNNING FOX,
29.12.2009
Leicester
fans have great memories of the FA Cup. We have seen our team
reaching the quarter final of the FA Cup in recent years, and could
we go all the way this time
We played Blackburn in the quarter finals of the league cup in 2005,
and also reached the same level in 2001 when we were defeated by
Wycombe Wanderers at Filbert Street.
We also had a great game against Tottenham in the 2006 FA Cup,
winning 3-2 at home, but was defeated in the 4th round against
Southampton and the adventure stopped almost before it had started.
Fulham was our 3rd round opponent in 2007. We held the Cottagers to
a 2-2 draw, but in the replay our FA Cup dream was over after losing
4-3. Southampton also stopped our cup dream in 2008, winning the 3rd
round clash 2-0.
Last season we had to play round 1 and 2. Wins against Dagenham &
Redbridge and Stevenage gave Leicester a chance in the 3rd round
against Crystal Palace. A drew 0-0 in the first game but lost the
replay 2-1.
Leicester have never won the FA Cup, but reached the final in 1949,
1961, 1963 and 1969. Leicester reached the semi-finals in 1982 and
1974. Could we get a good run this time ?
Swansea is a difficult opponent, but we are favourites and several
clubs from level 2 have in previuos years done well. Cardiff (2008)
and Millwall (2005) are both examples of clubs in recent years that
has played in the final. Both of them ended runners-up after losing
to Manchester United and Portsmouth.
The 3rd round game against Swansea will be played at Walkers
Stadium, 02.01.2010 (Saturday) at 15.00
