Chris Powell is back
and breaks record
Powell is the oldest
outfield player to appear in a League game for City
THE CUNNING FOX,
29.01.2010
When Chris
Powell waved goodbye to all City fans in the last game of the 08-09
season, no one would expect to see him back in the City first team
line-up, but his return against
Barnsley made him special in many ways.
Chris played a great game and was by many newspapers rated as the
best Leicester player on the pitch. He is still fit and showed that
his touch was still as good as in previous years.
The former England international became the oldest outfield player
ever to appear in a City first team in the league, with his first
appearance in the Championship this season.
He was 40 years and 140 days when he entered the field against
Barnsley, and to our notice only Joe Calvert has been older. He was
in goal for Leicester at the age of 40 years and 313 days back in
1947.
Arthur Attwood played for City at the age of 43 years and 275 days,
during the war, but this is not official league or cup games and not
really counting as Leicester City official cup or league appearances.
The oldest foreign player to appear for Leicester in a league game
is to our notice, Roberto Mancini. He played for City at the age of
36 in both FA Cup and Premier League games.
