Leicester Mercury
interested in Norwegian fans
Rob Tanner talks to
Ivar Tisthammer of the Scandinavian Branch
THE CUNNING FOX,
25.04.2010
I love to
check out the Leiceter Mercury website and to follow up on all the
latest on Leicester City. I also leave a comment or two on the
stories printed, and this time Mercury journalist Rob Tanner
followed up with a friendly e-mail asking for a "comment on the
phone".
Tanner had a number of questions and asked the following,
Q. How many is following Leicester in Norway
A. We have at most been around 150 members in the Supporters, and I
believe that around 200 people are Leicester fans in Norway. A "hard
core" group of fans, about 5 to 10, travels to Leicester every
season to watch the team, with some also holding a season ticket to
support Leicester.
Q. How long have you supported Leicester City
A. Since i was eight years old, watching Leicester on Telly in
Norway
Q. Who was your favourite player, and do you remember Alan
Birchenall playing
A. I must admit that Keith Weller and Frank Wortington was my heroes.
Remember Birch scoring a great goal for Leicester against Leeds, and
that he usually played a bit behind the forwards in the team.
Q. Who is your favourite Leicester player all time
A. That has to be Keith Weller, with Muzzy izzet and Steve Guppy
also up there among the great players. Weller managed to get into
the England line-up while at Leicester. Muzzy Izzet played in the
semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup and Steve Guppy played some great
games for City which also resulted in a chance to play for England.
Q. Who is your favourite Leicester player in the 09-10 team
A. My favourite player is Michael Morrison. He is so controlled and
taking new levels in a way the makes me very impressed. He was
signed from Cambridge United and after being left out of the team he
has fought his way back and shown great carachter. To watch him
curle in the assist at London Road for the winning goal was
fantastic.
Players such as Jack Hobbs, Chris Weale, Matty Fryatt and Richie
Wellens is also among my favourites.
Q. What do you think about the job Nigel Pearson has done
A. Fantastic, almost nothing has gone wrong since he arrived from
Southampton in the summer of 2008. The fact that he manage to bring
in unknown players with talent and at the same time mix that with
experienced players that "has a brain" and makes the squad complete.
Paul Dickov and Chris Powell are two very important signings. Dickov
helped City to promotion in 2002-2003 and was back to help the team
reach promotion in 2008-2009. Great player Dickov.
The signings of Hobbs, Wellens, Weale, Morrison and Berner is just
amazing. Berner has been fantastic, since joining from a difficult
time at Blackburn.
It's was nice to speak to Rob Tanner and hopefully a few lines will
be out there on the Leicester Mercury website. |
